With no McDonald’s or KFC, Tortola’s versions of fast food places are the itinerant food vendors who grill meat over charcoal fires, often on weekend nights. One of the best is Dareo’s (Lower Estate Rd., $3–12), which sets up next to the softball field behind the BVI High School after dark on Friday and Saturday nights. Dareo serves barbecue and jerk chicken, jerk pork, and soups. Dinner plates come with sides such as macaroni and cheese, peas and rice, salad, coleslaw, and baked potato pie.
Two favorite late-night food spots are Neto’s and Panchi’s, which sell fried chicken and french fries out of mobile buses. Both set up near the Road Town roundabout: Neto operates out of an old school bus, and Panchi out of a green van.
