Walla Walla University (204 South College Ave., www.wallawalla.edu) is located east of town. The quiet campus of this Seventh-day Adventist school educates some 1,600 students and is particularly strong in business and engineering.
Founded in 1859, Whitman University (www.whitman.edu) was the first higher education center in the West and is home to 1,300 students. The campus is just west of downtown Walla Walla. The tall clock tower, built in 1900, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
