The beauty of Washington is that you can surf on a Westport beach one day, go horseback riding the next, and be on the edge of a Mt. Rainier glacier the following day. The Pacific coast has long beaches for playing in the sand, fishing, or beachcombing; the various national parks and forests offer backcountry hiking at its finest in the Olympics, Cascades, and northeast Washington; Puget Sound is a haven for sea kayaking and sailing; Columbia Gorge offers some of the finest windsurfing on the planet; anglers love the countless lakes, reservoirs, and rivers; river rafters and kayakers head down the state’s white-water rivers throughout the summer; and cyclists discover roads and trails of every description. In the winter, the options shift to snow sports, and Washington has ’em all, including skiing of all types, snowboarding, sledding, skating, and snowmobiling.
