In existence since 1977, the nonprofit Alliance of People with disAbilities (206/545-7055 or 877/539-0212, www.disabilitypride.org) works to provide advocacy, education, and other assistance for people with significant disabilities. Washington is a leader in developing barrier-free recreation sites on federal and state lands, and the state publishes a detailed Accessible Outdoor Recreation Guide.
