North Puget Sound

Outdoor enthusiasts can find a whole lot to do once they break the Seattle northern city limits. The Puget Sound region in this direction is awash in marine parks, dramatic beaches, scenic drives, colorful flower fields, and quiet marina towns.

Pedal the rolling hills of historic Ebey’s Landing on Whidbey Island or cast a fly on one of Deception Pass State Park’s lakes. Slip on some flippers and a scuba tank and immerse yourself in the Edmonds Underwater Park or pedal along the trails at Japanese Gulch in Mukilteo. Whatever your predilections, there’s plenty to get the ol’ ticker pounding while enjoying the scenery along the way.

And if it’s something a little calmer that really sets your heart aflutter, no worries: Try window shopping antique towns like La Conner or Snohomish. Lay a picnic blanket under the Peace Arch at the Canadian border. Or tour the giant jumbo-jet production line in Everett.

Any way you shake it, the northern reaches of the Puget Sound have got enough afternoon excursions to keep you busy for a long time.
