Haggen Foods has three large gourmet markets (210 36th St., 2814 Meridian St., and Barkley Village, www.haggen.com), with fine delis offering Chinese food, pizza by the slice, sandwiches, and a salad bar. They’re a good deal for fast meals.

Find European-style breads, plus sandwiches and soups at Avenue Bread Co. (1313 Railroad Ave., 360/676-9274, 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.).

The Bellingham Farmers Market (360/647-2060, www.bellinghamfarmers.org, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., Sat.–Sun., early April–October) is held in the parking lot at Chestnut Street and Railroad Avenue.

Across town at 11th and McKenzie, the Fairhaven Farmers Market (360/647-2060) takes place 3–7 p.m. Wednesday June–September.
