Camano Island State Park
Located 14 miles southwest from Stanwood, Camano Island State Park(www.parks.wa.gov, open year-round) covers 134 acres along Saratoga Passage. The picnic tables on the park’s west side provide striking views of Whidbey Island and the Olympics. Hiking trails, including a half-mile interpretive loop, wind through 600-year-old Douglas firs with possible sightings of bald eagles, deer, raccoon, and opossum.
Other activities here include fishing from the Point Lowell boat launch and sunbathing along the cliff-backed beaches. The park’s two camping areas have tent sites ($13, no hookups) and coin-operated showers.
