Skagit Valley Food Co-op (202 S. 1st. St., 360/336-3886, www.skagitfoodcoop.com, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Sun.) has a wide selection of bulk foods, locally baked bread, wine and beer, fresh produce, and an all-natural deli (Deli Next Door) for a takeout lunch or dinner. This is the best and most nutritious quick meal deal in town.
Another place for fresh produce (and flowers, of course) is the Mount Vernon-Skagit Valley Farmers Market (360/292-2648) held in downtown Mount Vernon 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday June–September. Also try the Burlington Farmers Market (Cherry and Victoria Sts., 360/755-9717, 3–7 p.m. Friday May–Sept.).
At other times, stop by Burlington’s Country Farms Produce Market (101 Orange Ave., 360/755-0488) for fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables.
