Hiking
Located in the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Breazeale Interpretive Center (360/428-1558, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed.–Sun., free) has natural history and marine displays, hands-on exhibits for kids, and a range of programs. Borrow a trail guide from the center for a 0.75-mile nature hike through the upland cedar forest and fields, where you might see bald eagles, herons, ducks, or geese. Find it just north of Bay View State Park on Bay View-Edison Road.
Catch peekaboo views of the Olympics, San Juan Islands, and Skagit Valley farmland along the trails at Little Mountain Park. The highlight of the 490-acre park is the summit observation area, which offers an unobstructed panorama view from the 927-feet above the valley floor. To get there, follow Blackburn Road to Little Mountain Road.
