Island County Historical Museum
The Island County Historical Museum (Alexander and Front Sts., 360/678-3310, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed.–Mon. May–Sept., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Fri.–Mon. the rest of the year, $2 adults, $1.50 seniors, students, and military personnel, $4.25 families, free for kids under 6) has pioneer relics, oddities such as a shadow box with flowers made from human hair, and interesting newsreels from the 1930s on the Indian Water Festival. Out front is a garden with drought-tolerant native plants and herbs.
While at the museum, pick up its brochure describing a walking tour of the town’s beautiful Victorian buildings. It lists some 40 buildings in Coupeville of historical significance and tells the family histories of many owners.
