At one point the Whidbey Island Greenbank Farm (360/678-7700, www.greenbankfarm.com) used to be the largest loganberry farm in the world. After the owners closed it down in 1996, local citizens organized to keep the area from being turned into a housing development and persuaded the county to purchase it in 1997.
Today, new loganberry vines have been planted, and the farm’s gift shop (10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily in summer, noon–4 p.m. Mon.–Wed. and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Thurs.–Sun. the rest of the year) sells loganberry wine (produced elsewhere), along with grape and fruit wines from small local wineries.
A farmers market takes place here 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Sunday May–mid-October. The third weekend of July brings the Loganberry Festival, featuring a pie-eating contest, arts and crafts, live music, and food stands.
