For something completely different, Blue Fox Drive-In Theatre (1403 Monroe Landing Rd., 360/675-5667 www.bluefoxdrivein.com) is one of the last outdoor movie theaters in Washington.
The last weekend in April, Oak Harbor’s Dutch roots appear as it hosts Holland Happening—a downtown street festival, parade, international dance festival, Dutch dinner, and tulip show in Holland Gardens.
The 4th of July includes a parade and fireworks, followed in mid-July by Whidbey Island Race Week (360/675-6399, www.whidbeyislandraceweek.com), one of the top 20 yachting regattas in the world.
In early December, the Christmas Boat Parade departs from Oak Harbor, proceeding around Penn Cove to the Coupeville Wharf and back.
