Entertainment and Events
The Driftwood Players, a community theatrical company, puts on several plays a year at Driftwood Playhouse (120 E. 3rd in Aberdeen, 360/538-1213).
Kick the year off with a fun time at Aberdeen’s Dixieland Jazz Festival, held on Presidents’ Day weekend in mid-February. The Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival in late April—the peak of the migration—includes bird-watching field trips and workshops. In early May, the city’s Grays Harbor Discovery Days Celebration attracts longboats from throughout the Northwest for rowing and sailing races.
Hoquiam’s Loggers Playday, held the second weekend in September, is an opportunity for sedentary executives to see what real work is all about. After kicking off the event with a parade and salmon barbecue, loggers compete in ax-throwing, log-chopping, and tree-climbing events. Evening brings a big fireworks show.
