Because of the early morning departure of fishing charters, several local cafés are already open when the clock strikes five in the morning. A recommended lunch place with a salad bar and good seafood is Barbara’s by the Sea (2323 Westhaven Dr., 360/268-1329, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Fri.–Sat.) across from the marina.

Las Maracas Mexican Restaurant (202 W. Ocean Ave., 360/268-6272, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. daily) makes good enchiladas, tostadas, and chimichangas.

You’ll find a “surf and turf” menu that includes oysters, halibut, and prawns, along with steaks and pasta, at King’s LeDomaine (105 Wilson St., 360/268-2556, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. daily).

Buy freshly shucked oysters to go from Brady’s Oysters (3714 Oyster Place E, 360/268-0077, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily). This company was the first to grow oysters on suspended lines, a method that many claim produces a more delicately flavored oyster.

You can often buy ultra-fresh fish from commercial fishermen at the marina, and fresh-cooked crab at Merino’s Seafood (301 E. Harbor St., 360/268-5324, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily in summer, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sat.–Sun. in winter).
