Open for day use only, Westhaven State Park (Hwy. 105 just north of Westport, www.parks.wa.gov) is popular with rockhounds, beachcombers, and divers. Surfers and sea kayakers find some of the most consistent waves in Washington. The jetty was built here to increase the velocity of the seagoing water, collected from six rivers flowing into Grays Harbor

Prior to the construction of the jetty, deposits of sediment mandated annual channel dredging. The jetty worked—the channel hasn’t required dredging since 1942.
