Little Creek Casino (91 W. Hwy. 108, 360/427-7711 or 800/667-7711, www.little-creek-casino.com, 9 a.m.–4 a.m. Sun.–Thurs., 9 a.m.–5 a.m. Fri.–Sat.) deals blackjack, craps, and roulette and hosts frequent no-limit Hold éEm tournaments. Try the inexpensive buffet dining or the surprisingly good café.
Early June’s Mason County Forest Festival (www.masoncountyforestfestival.com) includes parades, a carnival, musical entertainment, arts and crafts, and logging competition in such events as the Two-Man Double Buck, Speed Climb, Ax Throw, and the ever-popular Jack and Jill.
Mason County Fair (www.masoncountyfair.org) is held the last weekend in July at the fairgrounds. Highlights include live entertainment and traditional county fair favorites such as 4-H exhibits and cake and preserve competitions.
Come back in September for The West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Seafood Festival, a.k.a. OysterFest (www.oysterfest.org). The main event is high-speed oyster shucking, and those shells will fly. Surrounding the competition are two days of wine-tasting, an oyster cook-off, food booths, art and boating exhibits, dancers, bands, and magicians.
