Built in 1923, Monticello Hotel (1405 17th Ave., Longview, 360/425-9900, $60 d) is a redbrick Italianate beauty that still stands as Longview’s most elegant structure. The well-appointed luxury suites ($200–250 d) are some of the nicest in the area, and the modest regular rooms in the hotel’s adjoining annex are comfortable and reasonable choices for budget travelers. The location can’t be beat, as the building faces R. A. Long Park from 17th Avenue.

Sitting on 26 acres outside of town, Rutherglen Mansion B&B (420 Rutherglen Rd., 360/425-5816, $95–125 d) offers three daintily decorated rooms under its English Colonial eaves. Each comes with private bath and fireplace. The hostess serves a full breakfast each morning and spreads a gluttonous Sunday brunch. The restaurant downstairs also serves dinners nightly except Sunday.

Super 8 Motel (250 Kelso Dr., 360/423-8880 or 800/800-8000, www.super8.com, $69 s, $79 d) offers some of the best budget rooms in the area, along with with an indoor pool. Comfort Inn (440 Three Rivers Dr., 360/425-4600 or 800/228-5150, $79–109 s or d) is another good chain hotel. The property has an outdoor pool and continental breakfast, plus free Wi-Fi.

For a more personal touch at budget prices, check one of two friendly mom-and-pop motels in town. The Town House Motel (744 Washington Way, 360/423-7200, www.townhousemo.com, $50 s, $65 d) offers tidy rooms that include microwaves, fridges, and free high-speed Internet. The property has an outdoor heated pool, and continental breakfast is served each morning.

There’s no pool at Hudson Manor Inn (1616 Hudson, Longview, 360/425-1100, www.hudsonmanorinn.com, $60 s, $80 d), but the rooms are a little more nicely decorated and also include fridges and microwaves. Hudson has free wireless Internet, plus a free business center and complimentary continental breakfast. The owners here are especially kind.
