Olympic National Park Visitor Center
Located a mile out of town, the Olympic National Park Visitor Center (3002 Mt. Angeles Rd., 360/452-0330, www.nps.gov/olym, daily year-round) is an ideal first stop for visitors to Olympic National Park or the very popular Hurricane Ridge, 17 miles south of town.
The center includes a large panoramic map, exhibits about the park, a Discovery Room for kids, and a 12-minute slide show that introduces visitors to the Olympics. Nature trails lead through the forest to park headquarters, a block away.
Get backcountry information from the summer-only Wilderness Information Center (directly behind the visitors center, 360/565-3100). Also here is the Beaumont log cabin, built in 1887 and moved here in 1962.
