A charming, three-tier wedding-cake Victorian house at the end of Water St. near Admiralty Inlet is home to The Swan Hotel (222 Monroe St., 360/385-1718 or 800/776-1718, www.theswanhotel.com). The property offers romantic little studio cottages ($160 d), suites ($99–145 d), and one penthouse unit ($275–400 d). The lodging is friendly to kids and dogs, even both at the same time.

Six miles west of Port Townsend on a bluff overlooking Discovery Bay is Bay Cottages (4346 S. Discovery Rd., 360/385-2035, www.baycottagegetaway.com, $85–150 s or d). The property’s two cottages each include full kitchen, feather beds, and fresh flowers. Kids are welcome.

Holly Hill House (611 Polk St., 360/385-5619 or 800/435-1454, www.hollyhillhouse.com, $108–190 s or d), built in 1872, has been beautifully renovated to provide five guest rooms, each with a private bath. The parlor showcases the owner’s collection of military aviation artwork and WWII memorabilia. The home is surrounded by tall holly and elm trees.

Standing on a hill, with a garden, gazebo, and outdoor hot tub on the patio, The English Inn (9718 F St., 360/385-5302 or 800/254-5302, www.english-inn.com, $99–135 s or d) is a lush, tastefully decorated inn. All five guest rooms have British themes and small private baths.
