Manresa Castle
The Manresa Castle (651 Cleveland St., 360/385-5750 or 800/732-1281, www.manresacastle.com, free) is an 1892 mansion variously owned by a tycoon, the Jesuit Order, and a hotelier.
Originally, Manresa had only one bathroom per floor, but when the film An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed, the Hollywood crew ran out of rooms at other hotels and motels. Their contracts called for a bathroom for each room, so the studio made a deal with Manresa’s owner: It advanced him money against the rent, and it was used to build the 43 bathrooms of today.
A restaurant and lounge are on the premises, and an attractive rose and rhododendron garden provides a quiet place to enjoy the vista of Port Townsend and Admiralty Inlet.
