Under $100
During the summer it is nigh impossible to find a hotel or bed-and-breakfast willing to put you up for under $100 per night, and even in the winter it is no small feat. The cheapest lodging sans tent that you'll find on Orcas Island is at the hostel at
Doe Bay Resort (360/376-2291, www.doebay.com, dorm beds $35–50), a funky, hippie enclave with a laid-back mix of characters eager to chat with solo adventurers and penny-pinching travelers.
Save on gas and hassles by taking the resort’s shuttle from the ferry for $12 round-trip; call in advance for a ride. There are two private couples’ rooms in the hostel building for $75–100.
