Orcas Island’s finest camping is at Moran State Park, with more than 150 campsites in four different campgrounds along Cascade and Mountain Lakes, plus a separate bike-in area ($12). Tent sites are $21–25, with showers provided. There are no RV hookups, though they do have a disposal station. Due to the park’s popularity, reservations are required in the summer months. All sites are pre-assigned, so check in at the pay station across from Cascade Lake when you arrive. Make reservations ($7 extra) at 888/226-7688 or www.parks.wa.gov. The campground is open year-round.

Obstruction Pass State Park is a tiny place with a boat ramp, a beach, and nine free walk-in campsites a half mile from the road. No reservations or potable water. The park is located at the end of Obstruction Pass Rd., 2.5 miles southeast of Olga.

Doe Bay Resort (near Olga, 360/376-2291, www.doebay.com) has tent sites (no RVs) for $25; the hippie resort’s features include community bathrooms and showers, kayak tours, yoga and massage, and a café.

Camp in comfort at the West Beach Resort (three miles west of Eastsound, 360/376-2240 or 877/937-8224, www.westbeachresort.com) in one of its canvas platform tents. The spacious tents each have a queen-size bed, a futon, and a small writing desk, plus a private picnic table, barbecue, and fire pit outside. West Beach also offers tent campsites ($27–33) and RV hookups ($33–38) along a scenic beach. Also here is a marina with boat rentals, sea-kayak tours, fishing and scuba supplies, and groceries.
