The modern Silver Cloud Inn-University Village (5036 25th Ave. NE, 206/526-5200 or 800/205-6940, www.scinns.com, $189 d) is just a short distance from University Village Mall, one of the nicer local places to shop. The campus is a few uphill blocks away, though not really walkable. Guests enjoy the use of an indoor pool, hot tub, exercise room, continental breakfast, and free parking.

The Chambered Nautilus B&B (5005 22nd Ave. NE, 206/522-2536 or 800/545-8459, www.chamberednautilus.com, $139–204 s or d) offers Cascade views on a hill just four blocks north of the university. This Georgian Colonial home was built in 1915 and is the only B&B close to campus. There’s a library and pleasant sun porch, and the six large guest rooms all have private baths, TVs, and phones. The Chambered Nautilus fills fast, so book early. Kids over eight are accepted.

Next to the B&B, the owners have a newer four-plex building called University Suites with one- and two-bedroom apartments—all with full kitchens ($129–184 d one-bedroom or $134–204 d two-bedroom). Guests at Chambered Nautilus and University Suites are served a gourmet three-course breakfast.
