Maritime History
Run by volunteers, the Center for Wooden Boats (1010 Valley St., 206/382-2628, www.cwb.org, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sun. Nov.–mid-Mar., 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily mid-Mar.–mid-May and Sept.–Nov., 10 a.m.–8 p.m. daily mid-May–Aug., free) restores and maintains a fleet of historic rowboats and sailboats. Take a class here to learn about wooden boat building, or rent one of its boats to sail or row around the lake for an afternoon.
Right next door is the small Maritime Heritage Center (206/447-9800, www.nwseaport.org) with vintage wooden boats and programs detailing maritime restoration.
Chandler’s Cove houses the small and free Puget Sound Maritime Museum (901 Fairview Ave. N, 206/938-2397, www.pugetmaritime.org, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Mon.–Sat. and noon–5 p.m. Sun.), with historic maritime photos and ship models on display.
