The best way to venture into this space-age world is aboard the kitschy Monorail (206/441-6038, www.seattlemonorail.com, 9 a.m.–11 p.m. daily, $2 each way), the elevated train that connects trendy Westlake Center at 5th and Pine with passé Seattle Center. This strange contraption was considered a model for transportation in its day but never really caught on. The 90-second ride departs every 15 minutes.
