Kelly’s Bed and Breakfast (Forest Road 23 just past the Chevron in Trout Lake, 509/395-2769, www.kellysbnb.com, $75–100 s or d) offers comfortable accommodations in a restored 1940s farmhouse, with excellent breakfasts. You can also rent the entire house for $230.

The Farm B&B (490 Sunnyside Rd. in Trout Lake, 509/395-2488, www.thefarmbnb.com, $95–115 s or d) is a classic three-story farmhouse constructed in 1890. Two cozy guest rooms share a bath, kids are accepted, and a full farm breakfast is served. More basic rooms are available for mountain climbers.

Also in Trout Lake is Serenity’s (2291 Highway 141, 509/395-2500 or 800/276-7993, www.serenitys.com, $99–129 d), with cabins with kitchenettes and hot tubs ; there is a two-night minimum. The restaurant here serves prime rib to die for.

Glenwood’s 80-acre Mt. Adams Lodge at Flying L Ranch (509/364-3488 or 888/682-3267, www.mt-adams.com, $95–190 d) sits in a secluded valley on the eastern slope of the Cascades, with a spectacular skyline dominated by Mt. Adams. The lodge is a favorite place for family reunions and other groups, but there are also more private cabins. All include a full breakfast. Guests enjoy the hot tub and one-mile hiking trail.

Right next to the Chevron gas station in Trout Lake is KJ’s Bear Creek Café (2376 Hwy. 141, 509/395-2525, summer daily 6 a.m.–9 p.m., fall and spring 6 a.m.–8 p.m., winter 6 a.m.–7 p.m.), serving up tasty breakfasts like huckleberry pancakes, when they’re in season, and standard lunches and dinners to hungry hikers and travelers out of a small dining room. This is Trout Lake’s only eatery, so gobble that food while it is hot.

Trout Lake has a popular Saturday market in July and August, with fresh produce, arts and crafts, and baked treats.
