Accommodations
There are dozens of little B&Bs tucked away in the residential areas of Bainbridge, but if you prefer a hotel, Island Country Inn (920 Hildebrand Lane NE, 206/842-6861 or 800/842-8429, $79–149 s or d) has nicely updated deluxe guest rooms and suites. The property has an outdoor pool and hot tub, plus continental breakfast in the mornings.
One of the better B&B deals on the island, The Captain’s House (234 Parfitt Way NE, 206/842-3557, $75–100 d) is a century-old home overlooking Eagle Harbor with rowboats, tennis courts, and an old-fashioned porch swing. The two guest rooms have private baths.
Perched on five secluded acres next to Manzanita Creek is Waterfall Gardens B&B (7269 Bergman Rd., 206/842-1434, www.waterfall-gardens.com, $145–230 d), a gorgeous property with an impeccably maintained garden. The more expensive rooms have kitchens and private hot tubs.
Our Country Haus B&B (13718 Ellingsen Rd. NE, 206/842-8425, $150 d) is a private carriage house on two acres with gardens and pond, private bath, and kitchen. A continental breakfast is served.
Willow Brook Farm Cottage (12600 Miller Rd., 206/842-8034, www.willowbrookfarm.com, $165 s or d) is a private 1920s-era cottage on a 25-acre working organic farm. The cottage has a complete kitchen, separate living and sleeping rooms, and a hot tub on the deck.
For a taste of the Far East in the Northwest, check out Fuurin-Oka Futon & Breakfast (12580 Vista Dr. NE, 206/842-4916, www.futonandbreakfast.com, $169 s or d) a traditional Japanese house and garden, complete with sliding shoji screens, green tea, and private ofuro, or Japanese bath.
One of the swankiest sleeping spots on the island, Ashton Woods Retreat (5515 Tolo Rd. NE, 206/780-0100, www.ashtonwoodsretreat.com, $275 d, $40 pet fee) sits on a secluded 10-acre wooded plot complete with quiet gardens and walking trails. Guests can borrow bikes from the property or just hoof it on two feet to the trails of Grand Forest. Enjoy the exercise with your pup—this is a very dog-friendly property. The rooms are extremely well appointed and private for a B&B-type property. Fresh-baked continental breakfast is brought to your door each morning rather than served at a communal table.
