For something lighter, get fresh baked goods and espresso coffees at Bainbridge Bakers (140 Winslow Way W, 206/842-1822, 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 6 a.m.–5 p.m. Sun.) or head to the historic brick building that houses Pegasus Coffee House and Gallery (131 Parfitt Way, 206/842-6725, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 7 a.m.–9:30 p.m. Fri.–Sun.). This is a fun place to enjoy a relaxing light lunch and espresso. There’s live music on Saturday nights.

Harbour Public House (231 Parfitt Way SW, 206/842-0969, 11 a.m.–midnight daily) has tasty on-the-water eats, including fish and chips and burgers, plus a dozen microbrewed beers.

Noted for serving some of the best Southwestern food in the Northwest is the San Carlos Restaurant (279 Madison N, 206/842-1999 5–9 p.m. daily, plus Fri. lunch 11 a.m.–2 p.m.), two blocks from the Winslow ferry terminal.

For Thai cooking, head to Sawatdy Thai Cuisine (8780 Fletcher Bay Rd., Island Center, 206/780-2429, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Tues.–Fri. and 5–8 p.m. daily).

Winslow’s Town & Country Thriftway (343 Winslow Way, 206/842-3848) is a big gourmet grocery with a fine wine cellar (in the cellar, of course). The Bainbridge Farmers Market comes to the municipal parking lot (Madison Ave. and Winslow Way, 206/855-1500, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Sat. mid-Apr.–Oct.) with flowers, organic fruits and vegetables, handicrafts, and ethnic foods.
