Enjoy gourmet French fries served up Euro-style in little paper cones and with creative dipping sauces at Fritz European Fry House (94 Washington Ave., 360/479-1088, www.fritzfryhouse.com, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Fri.–Sat., 12:30–6 p.m. Sun.), which also serves a nice selection of imported beers.
The best Italian food served this side of the Sound is masterfully plated at La Fermata (2204 E 11th St., 360/373-5927, 5–10 p.m. Tues.–Sat.), a romantic restaurant that specializes in Northern Italian dishes.
Enjoy a cup of joe and a breakfast burrito in the morning or a pop and a sandwich later in the day at the psychedelic Hi-Lo’s 15th St. Café (2720 15th St., 360/373-7833, www.hilos15thstreetcafe.com, 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Tues.–Fri., 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Sat.–Sun., closed Sun.), a hippie-dippy place that has a pretty neat collection of old thermoses and lunch pails that are sure to take several generations of diners back to their childhoods for a moment.
