Apart from Highway 3 from the south, the Ingraham Trail (Hwy. 4 East) is the only route out of the city. It then crosses the Yellowknife River and passes Prosperous, Pontoon, and Prelude Lakes, each with day-use areas and great for fishing, boating, and swimming.
Continuing east, the road parallels the Cameron River within Hidden Lake Territorial Park, 48 kilometers (30 miles) from Yellowknife. Trails lead down to the riverbank, and waterfalls dot the park. The road ends at Tibbit Lake, 71 kilometers (44 miles) from Yellowknife.
