Dawson is great for eating out; check the menu book at the Dawson City Visitor Information Centre to see which places look inviting.
Riverwest Bistro Restaurant (Front St., 867/993-6339, daily from 7:30 a.m.) has good coffee plus a deli with the best sandwiches in town, and a delightful selection of baked goods.
The breakfast special at
Klondike Kate’s (3rd Ave. and King St., 867/993-6527, April–Sept. daily 6:30 a.m.–11 p.m., $14–24) isn’t as legendary as the restaurant’s namesake was during the gold rush, but it’s still mighty popular. Bacon and eggs with baked beans and home fries will set you back $9. Pancakes and omelets are similarly priced. At lunch, salads and gourmet sandwiches are all under $15, while at dinner, plan on starting with prawns in ouzo ($11), and go on to pan-seared arctic char ($23). This place has a warm ambience and Dawson’s nicest patio.
Groceries
Dawson City General Store (540 Front St., 867/993-5813, daily 8 a.m.–9 p.m.) has a bakery and groceries, but your best bet for fresh meat and deli items is the Bonanza Market (2nd and Princess, 867/993-6567, Mon.–Sat. 9 a.m.–7 p.m.).
