Named for the landmass that once linked Asia and North America, the dramatic Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre (Alaska Hwy., 867/667-8855 May–Sept. daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m., the rest of the year Sun. 1–5 p.m., adult $7.50, senior $6.50, child $5) out by the airport contains life-size exhibits of animals from the last Ice Age, including a spectacular 12,000-year-old, four-meter-tall (12-foot) woolly mammoth skeleton.
Visitors will learn about the prehistoric animals that once roamed the north through exhibits, computer kiosks, dioramas, and a fascinating 30-minute film. A reconstruction of a 24,000-year-old archaeological site is also here, plus a gift shop and café.
