Rendezvous Mountain to Death Canyon
Trip Ideas
This 23-mile-long loop hike is different in that much of the way is downhill. Begin at the new Jackson Hole tram in Teton Village, where a $25 ticket takes you to the top of Rendezvous Mountain.
From the summit, the trail leads down to a saddle, across the South Fork of Granite Creek, and up to Teton Crest Trail. Head north on this trail to Marion Lake—a popular camping site—and then over Fox Creek Pass. The trail splits, and the right fork drops sharply down into scenic Death Canyon.
At the lower end of Death Canyon, cliffs rise nearly 3,000 feet on both sides. The trail forks at Phelps Lake, and from here you can either hike back to Teton Village via the Valley Trail or head to the trailhead at White Grass Ranger Station, 1.5 miles northeast of Phelps Lake.
