Waterlemon Cay Some of St. John’s best snorkeling is around Waterlemon Cay, an offshore islet with a hard-packed sand beach on one end. There is an informal snorkel trail around the island (start by the sand and head in a clockwise direction) where you will see a wide variety of hard and soft coral, plus fish, squid, and turtles. Hike to Waterlemon Cay along the Leinster Bay Trail, just past the Annaberg Sugar Mill ruins. The beach at Leinster Bay itself is not outstandingthe sand is coarse and yellowbut the sea grass and coral offshore make a good place to spot fish, turtles, and sea stars. Waterlemon is an easy half-mile walk from the Annaberg Sugar Mill ruins parking lot. The trail follows the coastline. Don’t try to drive it. To get to Waterlemon Cay continue walking around to the extreme east of the bay and swim across to the cay. |
