One Week in Wine Country

ONE WEEK IN WINE COUNTRY
There’s more than wine to the Wine Country, and some of the best sights and activities are not wine-related at all. This week-long tour of the major wine regions will give a taste of the diversity on offer, taking in a mix of wineries, sights, and outdoor activities. Driving is the best way to get around, or rent a bike in Sonoma or Healdsburg to explore some of the local attractions. (read more)

VARIETAL TOURS
Most wineries make a whole host of wines, but many are particularly well known for just one or two varietals. In addition, certain grapes grow best in specific parts of the Wine Country, so planning a trip to taste a particular style of wine can mean focusing on just one or two regions.

If you’re a fan of a particular type of wine, it’s worth planning a trip to the regions that specialize in it. Some wines, like pinot noir for example, are best in cooler regions suited to growing that grape, such as the Russian River Valley, Carneros, or the Santa Cruz Mountains. Grapes for other wines, like cabernet sauvignon, can be grown almost anywhere, creating countless styles that reflect the growing conditions in each location. (read more)

A Romantic Weekend

A ROMANTIC WEEKEND
What better way to spend a long weekend in the Wine Country than by experiencing the best champagne, food, art, and pampering that the Napa and Sonoma Valleys have to offer. This long weekend trip illustrates the diversity and hedonism of Wine Country, and most locations are within easy drives of the countless inns, B&Bs, and resorts in the southern end of the Napa Valley.
Depending on what time your day gets started, there are plenty of opportunities to stop in at additional wineries in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys or Carneros. Alternatively, cut out a few wineries from the itinerary along the way and spend more time simply soaking up the atmosphere or soaking in a mud bath.

MORE THAN WINE
Tasting wines is certainly not the only reason to visit the Wine Country. To lure more people through their doors, wineries have become skilled at differentiating themselves from their neighbors and competitors using attractions besides wine, which is great for you. Take an entertaining tour, explore the region’s history, peruse famous artwork, or simply learn more about wine. The Wine Country also excels at producing fine food. There was a rich agricultural heritage in the region even before the modern wine industry took root, and food lovers will find ingredients to make their mouths water. (read more)
