Accommodations in San Martín de los Andes are abundant, but the best values go fast. Reservations are advisable—and single occupants usually have to pay double rates—in summer, during Semana Santa, and throughout ski season. The municipal tourist office will make every effort to help find the best accommodations in your price range.
On the Junín highway, the wooded Camping del ACA (Avenida Koessler 2176, tel. 02972/42-9430, US$3 pp off-season, US$20 per site in summer) is spacious and shady, but the best sites go early. There are other campgrounds north and south of town in Parque Nacional Lanín .
In an attractive house with sparkling common areas, the 21-bed Hostel La Colorada (Avenida Koessler 1614, tel. 02972/41-1041, www.lacoloradahostel.com.ar , US$12–14 pp dorm, US$34 d) is an independent hostel that has mostly dorms but also one double with shared bath. Still, it’s friendly, well located, and has Wi-Fi; breakfast is a voucher to a downtown confitería.

The baths have been upgraded, though, and for a budget choice it’s by no means bad.

After Chilean poet Pablo Neruda fled over the Andes on horseback to avoid political persecution in 1949, he may have shared drinks with Juan Perón in the gallery bar.
Central Hotel Chapelco Ski (Belgrano 869, tel. 02972/42-7480, www.chapelcoskihotel.com.ar , US$48 s, US$55 d) is a little worn and has limited parking but is otherwise OK.
The handsome classic Hotel Crismalú (Rudecindo Roca 975, tel. 02972/42-7283, crismalu [at] smandes [dot] com [dot] ar, US$48 s, US$58 d) is showing its age but is still reasonable for what it offers.

Just far enough off the main drag to ensure some quiet, Hotel Colonos del Sur (Rivadavia 686, tel. 02972/42-7224, www.colonosdelsur.com.ar , US$58 s or d) has smallish rooms with bathtubs in a category where showers are the rule.
