The streets of Cabo San Lucas [1] are chockablock with places to buy souvenirs, apparel, fine art, tequila, cigars, and more. A number of upscale shops line the Plaza Fiesta, near the Marina Fiesta hotel, and most of the luxury stores inside the Puerto Paraíso mall are open for business.

Arts, Crafts, and Souvenirs

Across from the main dock, the Marina Mercado (Cabo San Lucas Marina, Lot 4, 9 A.M.–5 P.M. daily) is an arts and crafts market with dozens of vendors selling embroidered dresses, carved ironwood figures, ceramics, and jewelry. Sellers expect to bargain. Inquire about prices at several places before you decide to buy.

Taxco (Guerrero and Blvd. Marina, tel. 624/143-0551, 9 A.M.–6 P.M. daily) has a good selection of silver jewelry.

Joyería Alberto (Matamoros btw Niños Héroes/Lázaro Cárdenas, no tel., 9 A.M.–6 P.M. daily) is a satellite of a well-regarded Puerto Vallarta jeweler.

Dos Lunas (Plaza Bonita and Puerto Paraíso locations, tel. 624/143-1969, 9 A.M.–6 P.M. daily) has pretty sundresses, handbags, and the like, and Cartes (Plaza Bonita, tel. 624/143-1770, 9 A.M.–9 P.M. Mon.–Sat., 9 A.M.–4 P.M. Sun.) carries rustic furniture, Talavera pottery, and classy accents for the home.

Across from Mi Mariscos restaurant at the corner of Paseo a la Marina and Camino Viejo a San José, Chile & Anis (tel. 624/143-7454, 9 A.M.–8 P.M. Mon.–Sat.) is a Baja arts and crafts store with silver jewelry, wood crafts, mirrors, and ceramics for sale.

Upscale crafts line the shelves of Mi Mexico Magico (Loc. 52, tel. 624/143-5153, 8 A.M.–9 P.M. daily) in the Marina Fiesta plaza.

Fine-Art Galleries

In the lobby of the Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort, a photography gallery (U.S. tel. 831/480-4411) displays prints by Tomas Spangler (www.fotomas.com [2]), whose work depicts images and scenes unique to the Baja Peninsula. A representative is available 10 A.M.–2 P.M. Monday–Saturday.

Golden Cactus Gallery (Guerrero and Madero, tel. 604/628-2233 or 624/143-6399, www.goldencactusgallery.com [3]) features the works of artist Chris MacClure in a second-story studio. MacClure’s work captures local Baja imagery, and he has created commissioned paintings of yachts, airplanes, and the like for celebrity clients, including John Travolta.

Cigars

Many stores sell Cuban cigars in Los Cabos, but fakes are rampant. Buy from a reputable merchant if you want the real thing. And remember, Cubans never go on sale. La Casa del Habano (formerly J&J Habanos, Blvd. Marina near Madero, tel. 624/143-6160 or 877/305-6242, www.jnjhabanos.com [4]) has a walk-in humidor and a few tables inside. Prices are steep, but you can be confident that you’re getting what you pay for.

The owners also run a cigar bar called Hemingway’s (Guerrero btw Cárdenas/Madero, tel. 624/143-9845, www.jnjhabanos.com [4]) across from the entrance to Cabo Wabo.

Wine and Liquor

La Europea (tel. 624/145-8755, 9 A.M.–8 P.M. Mon.–Fri., 9 A.M.–9 P.M. Sat.) has opened a small street-level store in the Puerto Paraíso complex. This satellite of the larger main store on the Corridor has the best selection and most competitive prices on wines from around the world, plus a fairly complete list of liquors and gourmet foods.

Sporting Goods

Head to Cabo Sports Center (Plaza Náutica, tel. 624/143-4272, 9 A.M.–7 P.M. daily) for beach gear, water shoes, and basic supplies for golf, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, boogie-boarding, and mountain biking.

Minerva’s Baja Tackle (Blvd. Marina at Madero, tel. 624/143-1282, 9 A.M.–7 P.M. Mon.–Sat.), next door to Pisces Fleet, is the one-stop shop for lures and tackle.

Books and Magazines

Cabo San Lucas does not have a dedicated English-language bookstore; however, several shops in town stock a few titles. They include Minerva’s Baja Tackle (Blvd. Marina at Madero, tel. 624/143-1282, www.minervas.com [5]) for fishing books and Bahías Jiromar (Puerto Paraíso Local #284, tel. 624/144-3250) for newspapers, magazines, and some books. In addition, most of the larger resorts carry at least a few pocket fiction titles.

Puerto Paraíso

Upscale Puerto Paraíso (tel. 624/144-3000, www.puertoparaiso.com [6], 9 A.M.–10 P.M.), a shopping mall on the east side of the marina, is the first of its kind in Southern Baja. Most stores are now open, and the mall contains a mix of luxury boutiques, international chains, and entertainment venues. You’ll find everything from Sergio Bustamante artwork to Diamonds International and many familiar brands such as Tumi, Kenneth Cole, and Nautica. There is even a Curves exercise center.

Food options include Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Häagen-Dazs, Houlihan’s, and Johnny Rockets. There is also a bowling alley on the third level. Clean public restrooms and underground parking are added conveniences.
