Los Barriles [1] has the only real shopping in this part of Baja: Tío’s Tienda (20 de Noviembre at Los Barriles, Los Barriles, tel. 624/141-0330, 7:30 A.M.–10 P.M. daily), next door to Tío Pablo’s, carries everything from fishing tackle and souvenirs to apparel, gift wrap, and office supplies.
It also stocks one of the most impressive collections of books about Baja California found on either side of the border. Many of the titles are self-published memoirs written by gringo transplants; others are field guides, travel books, and novels that take place in Mexico.
Baja Beach Company (Plaza del Pueblo 8, Los Barriles, no tel., 9 A.M.–5 P.M. Mon.–Fri., till 2 P.M. Sat.), in the strip mall near Buzzard Bay, has ceramics, textiles, gifts, and a few books and maps.
In the same plaza, La Casa (Plaza del Pueblo 10, Los Barriles, tel. 624/124-8057) sells kitchenware and other goods for the home.
Big Tony (Plaza Libertad, Los Barriles, no tel., 9 A.M.–7 P.M. Mon.–Sat.) has good-quality beach clothing, shorts, bikinis, and accessories.
Back on the highway, across from the main entrance to town, El Toro y La Luna (Mexico 1, Entrada a Los Barriles, Los Barriles, tel. 624/141-0696, www.eltoroylaluna.net [2], 8 A.M.–5 P.M. daily) carries ceramic sinks, tiles, and other home furnishings. The store has a second branch in La Ribera [3] (Av. Santa Maria, La Ribera, tel. 624/141-0698, www.eltoroylaluna.net [2], 8 A.M.–5 P.M. daily), at the turn for the road to Cabo Pulmo [4].
