Travel companies and outfitters offer a variety of guided tours and organized activities, from island kayak trips and whale-watching to language immersion and cooking classes. A number of the newer ones are committed to promoting environmentally aware tours and trips.
Since each outfitter may partner with others to offer unique trips, it’s difficult to keep up with all the options. Aside from the activity-specific outfitters mentioned earlier in this travel guide, Espíritu & Baja Tours (Obregón #774-A, btw Allende/Juárez, tel. 612/122-4427, www.espiritubaja.com [1]) runs professional and reasonably priced trips, such as snorkeling at Espíritu Santo [2] (US$65 pp), whale-watching trips to Bahía Magdalena [3] (US$120 pp), sportfishing (US$240 per boat), kayaking along the Pichilingue Peninsula [4] (US$70 pp), and airport transfer services (airport to hotel US$15, hotel to airport US$7).
Readers have reported pleasant outings with Eduardo’s Tours (tel. 612/166-1657 or 612/152-1213, www.eduardostours.com [5]). Eduardo Gomez provides ground transportation and leads guided trips to Los Cabos [6] (US$110 pp), Todos Santos [7] (US$80 pp), and El Triunfo [8] (US$80 pp). A La Paz city tour costs US$32 per person, and a tour of several beaches along the Pichilingue Peninsula is US$32. Whale-watching tours (US$120 pp, includes two hours of whale-watching but is a full-day trip with a long drive to Bahía Magdalena and back) and snorkeling (US$80 pp, US$95 pp with kayaks) are also possible. Travelers with more time can arrange multiday trips to the missions in Loreto [9] and Mulegé [10] or to see nearby cave paintings in the mountains.
In addition to hiking and horseback riding tours, Antonio Moller (tel. 612/123-1370) offers guided trips to El Triunfo and the nearby cactus sanctuary. Tours cost US$40 per person, with a minimum of three people, and last approximately six hours (8 A.M.–3 P.M.).
Besides catering to divers [11] and kayakers [12], Baja Expeditions (tel. 612/125-3828, toll-free U.S. tel. 800/843-6967, www.bajaex.com [13]) offers wildlife cruises, open-water swim clinics, and a wide variety of custom-designed group trips that usually blend an element of adventure with a conservation-minded approach.
