In the southeastern comuna of Peñalolén, Cousiño Macul (Av. Quilín 7100, tel. 02/3514135, fax 02/3514181, www.cousinomacul.cl [1], sschotte [at] cousinomacul [dot] cl) is one of Chile’s oldest wineries, in the same family since 1856 since Matías Cousiño purchased the vineyards. Its bodegas (cellars) and Museo del Vino (Wine Museum) are open for English-language tours weekdays at 11 a.m., with Spanish-language tours weekdays at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
Tours are free, but tastings of estate wines, held in an attractive bar cum sales room, cost US$2 per glass (reserve wines US$3 per glass). The house produces cabernet, merlot, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and riesling.
Bus 210 from the Alameda goes within walking distance of Viña Cousiño Macul.
