El Manzano

With sunny outdoor seating overlooking the river, Trattoria Calypso (Camino al Volcán 5247, tel. 02/8711498) is an outstanding Italian restaurant in El Manzano that makes a great stop on the way up the Cajón del Maipo [1]. The menu, of course, concentrates on pasta, but with greater variety than in many Italian restaurants in Santiago [2] proper, and it offers an exceptional dessert menu. Befitting its weekend business, it’s open Thursday–Sunday 1–8:30 p.m. only. Figure about US$10–12 for most entrées.
