Home to many Santiaguino summer houses, the beach resort of Algarrobo (population 6,628) hosts the Regata Mil Millas Náuticas for yachties every February; the postcolonial adobe Iglesia de la Candelaria (1837) is a national historical monument. Out of season, it can be mortuary-silent, though business increases on weekends.
In a quiet cul-de-sac, friendly Hotel Uribe (El Teatro D, tel. 035/481035, US$35 s or d) is spacious and comfortable enough, with a decent breakfast. Rates at the best hotel, Hotel Pacífico (Av. Carlos Alessandri 1930, tel. 035/482855, www.hotelpacifico.cl [1], US$72/95–83/108 s/d with breakfast) have risen dramatically.
La Regata (Av. Carlos Alessandri 2108, tel. 035/482590, www.laregatapub.cl [2]) is a bar that has pizza, sandwiches, and live music (mostly salsa) on weekends. It has a fireplace for cool nights, and also has an adjacent cybercafe.
