Close to the Barrio Estación restaurant and entertainment district, slowly rehabbing a rambling labyrinth of a building, Residencial Don Ambrosio (Salas 452, tel. 099/9369613, oliviadecastro [at] hotmail [dot] com, US$9 s–US$19 s or d) is work in progress, but most rooms are spacious, and even the small but otherwise adequate singles have private baths; breakfast costs extra.
Opposite the Mercado Central, Residencial Central (Rengo 673, tel. 0412/227309, US$11/20 s/d) is passable.
