HOURS: Stall hours vary; generally Tues.-Fri. 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Sat. 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
DC’s oldest enclosed public market, Eastern Market’s stalls showcase fresh fare: cut flowers, organic vegetables, hormone-free meats, seafood, pastries, and baked goods.
On weekends the market is at its busiest. Crowds flock to the Saturday and Sunday farmers market to purchase locally grown products such as organic cheeses, homemade sausage, seasonal vegetables, and unusual offerings that range from handmade soap to haggis produced in nearby Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.
Sunday is flea market day with vendors selling art, clothing, housewares, jewelry, accessories, and antiques but focusing more on new goods and crafts than antiques and yard-sale finds—the Northeastern sense of the word.
