If you’ve been inspired by a home tour of Dumbarton House [2] or Mount Vernon [3] and want to own your own piece of American history (or English as well), Susquehanna sells fine 18th- and 19th-century furniture, oil paintings, and antiques, mostly American, with some Revolutionary War-era British and European pieces tossed into the mix.
Owner David Friedman has operated his Georgetown store for nearly 30 years, scouring the Eastern Seaboard for some of the country’s best antiques; recently, his collection included several original Windsor chairs, a George III chest-on-chest, case clocks, and fine portraits.
The store also sells gilt-wood frames. Prices are comparable to dealers across the region—a welcome relief in a neighborhood that marks everything up simply because you found it in Georgetown.
