The historic 834-room Omni Shoreham drips with 1930s elegance, greeting guests in the lobby with plush furniture, crystal chandeliers, fine fabrics, and classic style and service that somehow manages to be unpretentious, even though the place is a member in the Historic Hotels of America, a program overseen by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Omni Shoreham’s guest rooms are large, the smallest being nearly 300 square feet, and its public areas are spacious as well, with wide hallways and huge arched windows that let in natural light. The hotel has an outdoor pool set amid its six manicured acres as well as an in-house restaurant and bar, and it is within walking distance of the Metro.
Guests who believe in ghosts may want to steer clear of the aptly named “Ghost Suite.” Two women—a housekeeper and a young resident—died in the rooms in the 1930s, and one or both of them reportedly haunt the spaces.
