DC’s most popular small venue for rock and well-known for staging a broad spectrum of other genres, the 9:30 Club holds 1,200 patrons in a warehouse space with a vast first floor facing an elevated stage and an upstairs balcony overlooking the entire scene.
Four bars keep the drinks flowing, and there’s not a bad sightline in the house. Still, shorter people—me included—do better by queuing up well before the doors open to snag a spot near the stage.
The 9:30 Club is an all-ages club; it’s not uncommon to see a parent with a teen or two in tow, or a group of high-schoolers checking out a favorite obscure group.
IDs are required for those wanting to drink alcohol, no exceptions. Recent appearances include Loretta Lynn, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cars, and Regina Spektor.
