When it first opened a couple of years ago, Fubar caused quite a stir thanks to its secret location. Now everyone knows where it is, but it’s still fun to find. Located behind a false wall inside a hot dog shop at the Workers’ Stadium, it’s a Prohibition-style speakeasy decorated in red and black, with jazz on the sound system.
It sounds gimmicky, but it’s actually pretty classy. Fubar appeals both to the party crowd and more laidback drinkers, and it’s a good place to start a night out.
Cocktails come served in ceramic Buddhas, which you get to keep when you’re done, and have quirky names like Fu-jito and Fu-tini. The Dizzy Buddha is a tropical fruit cocktail with a punch, and the potent Fu-Manchu comes in a mug with Fu Manchu himself emblazoned on it.
Happy hour runs 3-9 p.m. daily.
