No self-respecting Beijinger would be seen dead without a Plastered T-shirt. Designs range from retro Mao prints and pandas to slogans and road signs, and their distinctive style makes them easily recognizable by people in the know.
Plastered was set up in 2006 in Nanluoguxiang by a British expat named Dominic, and it now has several branches across China. Dominic’s aim is to celebrate “everything beautiful about China” from karaoke halls to acrobats. His designs have appeared in Vogue and Elle, so he’s clearly doing something right.
Plastered also sells badges, posters, and calendars, all emblazoned with Dominic’s unmistakable designs.
