While Shanghai’s most popular views are to be had from the Bund and the Lujiazui skyscrapers, a different perspective can be gained from the top of the Lupu Bridge.
The Shanghai Climb takes you 367 steps and 110 meters (1,180 ft.) up over the Huangpu River, onto the peak of the world’s second largest arch bridge (the largest being in Chongqing). A ticket will get you escorted from street level to the start of the bridge in an elevator, and then guided up the steps to the viewing platform at the top.
It’s not as steep as it looks, and the views from the top are well worth the legwork.
The Lupu Bridge connects Luwan District to Pudong and was completed in 2003. Rumor has it that the mayor of Shanghai tweaked the designs to make it larger than necessary, guaranteeing that it broke the world record.
